Decorating and Penciling

Sorry I’ve been AWOL. Got sick and got behind in a number of things. I would have posted some shots of two recent projects but they’re all Top-Secret-like because they’ll end up under a tree soon. I’m furiously penciling gags for Dixie Drive now and will be slapping some ink on them soon. Still getting used to a 5 cartoon a week schedule!

I’ve decided to work upstairs and get a little decorating and other holiday stuff done in between bouts of erasing. Bailey is home for the holidays from UNCSA and I get to visit with her a bit this way too.

It’s funny, somehow we seem to have put more stuff out this Christmas than in a while. I’m amazed at all the things we’ve accumulated over the years…I like to get my hands on old stuff from the 40s and 50s if I can. I’ve got a few things from my folks and a bunch of stuff I found in thrift shops or antique stores (If you’re ever in Asheboro, we have a GREAT antique mall here). One of my favorites is our little stack of candle-holding Santas that we’ve always had Bailey light on Christmas eve. The only candles I can find that fit into the little cups are Hanukkah candles. Hard to get your hands on in Asheboro! We used to tell Bailey that Santa wouldn’t come if we forgot to light the Santa candle and she’d get really excited about it just before heading off to bed.

The Famous Santa Candle

I actually dropped them one year and broke the poor little guys but I was able to fix them with a little glue. Santa came and the effects of the eggnog eventually wore off.

Here’s to all of you having a wonderful Holiday Season, whatever holiday you’re celebrating! Be of good cheer!!!!
