Scraaaaaatch!

I’m currently trying out scratchboard. Using Ampersand 5×7 ClayBord, I’m applying Blak Magic india ink to the surface and then scratching away to reveal the white.

Nina Simone, scratchboard

Jazz Great, Nina Simone

It’s a rather tough yet somewhat forgiving medium…if I totally screw up, I can apply more ink and scratch away again (unless I scratch away all the clay to reveal the board behind). I love the look of the finished product. The cool thing about this medium is the way it forces a style out of you by necessity.

I’ve always admired Nina Simone’s music and her attitude towards the world she was dealing with. If you’ve never heard her, check her out!

Thanks! Sorry for the late reply, this got tagged as spam for some reason. I’m pretty new to the scratchboard thing, trying to keep at it but freelance keeps interrupting!
